Which Fantasy Adventurer Are You?
Every great adventure needs a hero. Unfortunately, not every hero is particularly well-adjusted...
Somewhere between the pages of a well-loved fantasy novel, the roll of a twenty-sided die, and the promise of an unexplored world, there's a little part of us that dreams of adventure. Perhaps you'd be the one charging headlong into danger, sword raised and questions very much left for later. Perhaps you'd rather have a plan, a spellbook and a very good idea of what you're walking into. Or maybe you'd be happiest wandering through an ancient forest, talking to the wildlife and quietly judging everyone else's life choices.
Fantasy is full of wonderful characters, and part of the fun is finding the ones we connect with. But let's be honest, adventurers are a peculiar bunch. They willingly walk into dungeons, argue with suspicious old men, collect objects of questionable value, and occasionally attempt to fight things several times their size.

The Barbarian - Occasionally Makes Poor Life Choices
I'm not a violent person. I just have chronic intolerance of stupid people!
Diplomacy is all well and good, but have you considered hitting the problem with something really, really big?
The Barbarian believes in keeping things simple. See a monster? Hit it. Find a locked door? Hit it. Someone says something particularly irritating? Well, you get the idea! But beneath all that muscle and questionable decision-making is a fiercely loyal heart. Barbarians are the ones who stand between their friends and danger, even if their preferred method of protection involves several broken bones and a small crater.
If you're a little impulsive, fiercely protective of your friends, and occasionally wonder whether the problem would go away if you just HIT IT, congratulations! You're probably a Barbarian!

The Bard - The Reason There's a Wanted Poster...
I have three talents: talking, singing, and making things considerably worse!
Every adventuring party needs a Bard. Not necessarily because they're useful (they certainly are, but we're being modest), but because somebody has to keep things interesting.
Bards are charming, creative, and blessed with an almost supernatural ability to talk themselves into trouble. They're the storytellers, performers and diplomats, although the distinction between those last two professions is sometimes rather difficult to establish. They can talk their way past a castle guard, charm the local nobility, and convince the entire tavern that they are a legendary hero. Whether any of it is actually true is a completely different matter!
If you enjoy being the centre of attention, have a story for every occasion, and believe that most problems can be solved with a little confidence and a lot of improvisation, the Bard might be your calling.

The Cleric - The Party's Unpaid Therapist!
Have you tried praying about it? Because I'm running out of spell slots!
Someone has to keep the adventuring party alive. Unfortunately, that someone is usually the Cleric.
Part healer, part spiritual guide, and part exhausted parent, the Cleric spends much of their time patching up the consequences of everyone else's terrible decisions. They are compassionate, dependable, and guided by their faith. They are also quite capable of delivering divine retribution when someone pushes their patience a little too far. After all, even the gods have their limits!
If you're the person everyone comes to for advice, emotional support, or emergency repairs after another disastrous evening, you might be the Cleric.

The Druid - Nature's Personal Problem Solver
I'd rather be talking to a tree. At least the trees know when to shut up!
Why spend your time in a crowded tavern when you could be wandering through an ancient woodland, befriending the wildlife and quietly contemplating the universe? That's what was written on the advert...
The Druid finds magic in the natural world. They understand the balance of nature, appreciate the beauty of the wilderness, and have a rather unusual relationship with the mushroom you just passed back there! They're also capable of turning into something considerably more dangerous than your average woodland creature. So perhaps think twice before annoying them - something the party should definitely remember the next time they forget that they left the horses tied to a tree three towns ago!
If you'd rather spend the afternoon exploring the forest than dealing with people, have an inexplicable fondness for moss, and occasionally have urges to experience life as a woodlouse, the Druid may be your spirit animal. Quite literally.

The Monk - Calm, Collected and Slightly Annoying About It.
Inner peace is important. So is knowing exactly which bones break easiest...
The Monk has achieved something most adventurers can only dream of: a degree of self-discipline.
Through focus, training, and an awful lot of patience, the Monk has developed a remarkable ability to remain calm in the face of adversity. They rely on their bodies, minds and carefully honed skills rather than an impressive collection of weapons or magical trinkets. They don't need much equipment, don't fuss, and are probably the only person in the party who remembers to stretch before a fight. All of this makes them both necessary and highly annoying, as they quietly take over the roles of every other party member. Need some extra hit points? The Monk can do it. The monster only takes damage from magical attacks; the Monk can do it. Need to explain to the guard how their anatomy works in a deeply physical and meaningful way...
If you're quietly determined, enjoy mastering new skills, and find people's chaos mildly entertaining because you've already sorted the problem like a universal cheat code, the Monk might be your match.

The Paladin - Has a Very Strict Code of Conduct
I have sworn an oath. Unfortunately, nobody asked whether I was flexible!
The Paladin has principles. Lots of them.
They have made solemn promises, sworn sacred oaths, and dedicated themselves to a cause greater than themselves. They believe in justice, honour, and protecting those who cannot protect themselves. They're also quite likely to remind everyone else of these things at regular intervals!
Paladins are the moral compass of the adventuring party, although sometimes that compass does point directly towards an argument nobody else wanted to have. But when things get truly dangerous, you want the Paladin standing beside you. They're loyal, courageous, and absolutely committed to doing what they believe is right.
If you have strong principles, take your promises seriously, and have ever started a sentence with "That's not the point!", you may have found your calling.

The Warlock - Should Have Read the Small Print
It was a perfectly reasonable agreement. I just didn't read the bit about eternal servitude!
Why spend years studying magic when you can simply make a deal with something ancient, powerful, and almost certainly up to no good?
The Warlock has acquired their magical abilities through a pact with an otherworldly patron. It's a rather convenient arrangement, really, provided you don't ask too many questions about the terms and conditions.
Warlocks are mysterious, unconventional, and often a little difficult to explain at parties. They have access to extraordinary power, although their choice of benefactor may occasionally raise a few eyebrows. Still, everyone needs a hobby!
If you're drawn to the mysterious, enjoy bending the rules, and have ever thought "how bad could it possibly be?" before casting your signature on that two-sided rental agreement, the Warlock might be for you.

The (Winter) Sorceress - Born With It, Thank you Very Much!
Some people have a gift. Others are the gift and make the room considerably colder.
Unlike the Warlock, the Sorceress doesn't need to negotiate terms and conditions with mysterious beings or spend decades buried in ancient spellbooks. She just knows it.
Her magic is instinctive, personal, and sometimes a little unpredictable. This can make for some interesting moments when things don't quite go to plan. The Winter Sorceress is elegant, magical, and restrained, but perhaps not someone you'd want to upset when the temperature drops.
If you're a little independent, a little mysterious, and prefer to do things your own way - because obviously it's the right way - then the Winter Sorceress is your kind of adventurer.
So, Which Adventurer are You?
Of course, the trouble with fantasy adventurers is that most of us probably aren't just one.
You might have the courage of the Barbarian, the sarcasm of the Bard, and the questionable judgment of a Warlock. Perhaps you're a Cleric when your friends need you, a Druid when you've just had too much 'peopleness', and a Paladin when somebody really, REALLY needs a telling off.
And that's more or less the point!
Fantasy gives us the freedom to explore different personalities, imagine extraordinary possibilities, and occasionally pretend that our less sensible decisions are all part of a much larger quest. Whether you're a seasoned tabletop gamer, a devoted fantasy reader, or someone who simply likes a little magic with their toast, there's an adventurer in there somewhere.
